DIY Treats to Beat the Georgia Heat

by Jada Burke, PCHS ’18

Have you ever been sitting outside sweating buckets because its SO hot outside, and you know there’s only one thing that could truly cool you down? A popsicle. So you go and look in the freezer to find there’re no popsicles at all! OH NOOOO!

Well, I’ve got you covered, because you don’t need that store brand popsicle anyways when you could make your own, YOUR way!

  • Juice/soda of choice
  • Candy/fruit/toppings
  • Popsicle molds
  • A freezer
  • Somewhere to eat your popsicle

Step One: gather your ingredients and decide on the best popsicle combination.  You could use fruit and all other types of flavor combos, but I decided I wanted to use the healthiest options possible, candy and soda.

Step Two: fill the popsicle molds slightly over halfway full with juice or soda.

Step Three: fill the mold with your choice of fruit or candy. You can skip this step if you just want a plain old boring popsicle.

Step Four: once your choice of candy and soda are in, make sure to go back and fill the rest of the gapping space with juice/soda, all the way to the top, so the stick on your popsicle mold adheres properly.  Otherwise, it will be difficult to remove the popsicle from the mold.

Step Five: place popsicles in the freezer for approximately 2-3 hours. I recommend leaving your popsicles in the freezer overnight so that they will be easier to remove from the mold.

Step Six: remove from freezer

Step Seven: Share and Enjoy!
