On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, the Lady War Eagles soccer team played in the 2nd round of the GHSA state playoffs at Glenn Hills High School in Augusta, GA .

With two of the three seniors being injured, the Lady Eagles had a rough start to the season, but Coach Barling and Coach Brooker were so proud of the girls for winning the first round of GHSA state playoffs at South Atlanta High School. Entering the state playoffs as fourth seed, the Lady Eagles were not expected to beat the first seed, South Atlanta, in the first round.  However, on April 27th, they beat the South Atlanta Hornets 4-3 after two five minute overtime halves and two rounds of penalty kicks.

On May 2nd the girls arrived at Glenn Hills High School a two hours bus ride. They were ready to play their hearts out and determined to not make this game their last one.

Arriviving at Glenn Hills, the first thing the Lady Eagles noticed was the field. It had been untreated and unnourished, resulting in a less than perfect pitch. The girls were not used to playing in this type of field; however, our Lady Eagles should have been prepared to play in any type of environment.

The Lady War Eagles were prepared for a tough fight.  Glenn Hills High School had a leading scorer that already had scored 55 goals this season alone. In spite of being faced with an aggressive offense, Putnam County High School played strong.

The game ended with the score of 3-0, with the Glenn Hills High School Spartans being the victors. Our girls walked off the field with their heads up, knowing that all of their efforts this season paid off. The Lady Eagles’ number one supporter, Principal Mr. Dastous, shared words of wisdom with the girls to better their chances of winning state next season.

After the game, the team celebrated their achievements this season with Mexican food. This was the last meal they spent together as a team. Our three seniors, Macey Harrison, Erica Mullis, and Abby Witcher, were sad that these were their final moments with their second family; however, they are ready for the next chapter of their lives. Both Erica Mullis and Macey Harrison will continue their education at Kennesaw State University. Abby Witcher is furthering her soccer career at GMC.

Coach Barling and Coach Brooker sent out a Remind message to all the girls: “Great season. We are so proud of you!”

Great job, Lady Eagles. Putnam County High School is so proud.
